Puncher: Amber O’MalleyPunchee: Blaine O’Malley
Memorable Lines:
Amber: “Then I will make you leave.”
Blaine: “How? You don’t have the strength. You don’t have the fucking gall. You’re too much like your simpering mother. Touch her once and she quits.”
Why it’s Awesome:  Amber’s father is an abusive asshole, most certainly verbally, and quite possibly physically as well. In four comics, he shows up uninvited to Freshman Family Weekend (With creepy stepson Faz in tow), insults and demeans Amber, and tries to assert his power over her before insulting her mother. Amber will have none of that.
While already an excellent moment of a character showing up their awful excuse for a parent (especially one who really needs to be punched), to get the full brunt of character development, you have to be familiar with the writer’s other comic universe. In Shortpacked!, Amber and Blaine still existed, Blaine was still abusive and horrible (having been confirmed to have hit Amber at least once, and possibly her mother more than that, in addition to being emotionally abusive and getting involved with the Korean Mafia, endangering Amber and her mother, and fathering lots of half-siblings to her), and it took Amber years to grow out of her shy, withdrawn personality as a result. By the time she had, Blaine died. While Amber did get the chance to tell off her father at the funeral (and brought her fiance, who wore a Hawaiian shirt and party hat), he was dead at the time, robbing her of the chance to stand up to him. In her words, “You told me I was nothing, and I’ll never see the look on your face when you realize I am everything, without you.” Regardless of the universe, there’s something infinitely satisfying about her finally getting to punch this jerk in the face.
Where to find it?: Dumbing of Age by David Willis, Book Three: Comic  “Strength”, 8/17/13
(Amber’s monologue in the other universe is from Shortpacked!, also by David Willis, storyline Deady Dearest, in the comic “Last Respects" from April 13, 2012.)
